The Brandon Trilogy

The Brandon Trilogy follows three closely connected lives at the court of Henry VIII: Mary Tudor, the king’s younger sister; Charles Brandon, his intimate companion and later Duke of Suffolk; and Katherine Willoughby, Brandon’s final wife. Across the three novels, private affection repeatedly collides with the demands of dynasty, patronage and royal obedience. Secret marriage, military service, widowhood and inheritance make the Brandon household a revealing vantage point on Henry’s court.

The sequence stretches from Mary’s brief queenship in France and her defiant marriage to Brandon through the break with Rome and into the increasingly confessional politics of the mid-Tudor years. Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Thomas Cromwell and the king himself are not distant historical scenery but forces that shape the protagonists’ security. The trilogy therefore combines biographical fiction, court politics and family history across a generation of Tudor change.
