A Christmas Baby at Rookery House
October 1941. Marianne Fordham is caring for her young daughter Emily, completing dressmaking commissions and worrying about her pilot-officer husband, Alex, who is flying operations over enemy territory. With another baby almost due, the pressures of wartime family life are becoming increasingly difficult to manage.
At Rookery House, Thea welcomes her friend Violet Steele, who has been running an ambulance station in London's East End through the Blitz and badly needs a rest. VAD nurse Evie Jones, meanwhile, receives news that forces her to confront her past just as her former patient and friend Ned Blythe returns to work in the hospital gardens. Their intertwined stories follow the women of Rookery House as they face separation, difficult choices and the uncertainties of life on the British home front.
