Warrior: Brothers of the Sword
First published 2023
Britain in the years before the Roman invasion. Caratacus and his brother Togodumnus are drawn into contests over succession, alliances and the future of Cunobeline’s kingdom. Their shared defence of family power is complicated by rivalry and different responses to Roman influence. The brothers must cooperate against external threats while recognising that the same struggle may eventually make them competitors for leadership.
The brothers’ relationship mirrors the political problem facing Britain. Tribal kingdoms need cooperation to resist Rome, yet succession disputes and local ambitions make unity difficult even within Cunobeline’s family. The novel follows Caratacus before he becomes the famous resistance leader, showing how Roman pressure turns an internal royal rivalry into a question of collective survival.
