Rosie Hendry is a British writer of historical sagas whose fiction concentrates particularly on women’s lives during the Second World War. She lives in Norfolk and has said that her interest in the period grew from listening to her father’s stories about growing up during the war. Hendry draws heavily on social history, using details from contemporary records and everyday wartime experience to build stories around family, work, friendship and community rather than military campaigns alone. Her fiction frequently gives prominence to women whose wartime occupations placed them close to danger while leaving them largely outside conventional histories of combat.

Her best-known books include the East End Angels series, which follows Winnie, Frankie and Bella as they work for the London Auxiliary Ambulance Service during the Blitz, and the Rookery House novels, set around a wartime maternity home in Norfolk. The Mother’s Day Club, the first Rookery House novel, won the Romantic Novelists’ Association award for historical romantic sagas in 2022. Hendry has continued to expand the Rookery House sequence through novels such as A Wartime Welcome at Rookery House, Digging for Victory at Rookery House, Home Comforts at Rookery House and Wedding Celebrations at Rookery House. Across these series she combines wartime history with domestic drama, romance and recurring communities of characters, making civilian resilience and women’s contribution to the home front central to her historical fiction.
