Ambrosius Aurelianus

Ambrosius Aurelianus was a post-Roman British leader credited by Gildas with organising resistance after a period of severe Saxon attacks. He is one of the few named leaders associated with the recovery of British resistance in the fifth century.

The Lantern Bearers and Sword at Sunset portray Ambrosius as the inheritor of Roman authority and mentor to a younger generation of commanders. Ambrosius is historically attested in a limited source tradition; the detailed court, campaigns and family relationships are fictional reconstruction.
