Highwayman: Ironside

England, 1655. Major Samson Lyle once fought for Parliament, but the brutality of Cromwell’s Irish campaign and a dispute with the new ruling elite turned him into an exile. After his wife Alice is murdered in retaliation, Lyle returns as the Ironside Highwayman. With his young ward Bella and the former smuggler Eustace Grumm, he robs officials and agents of a Protectorate governed through military Major-Generals.

A raid on a powerful lawyer reveals that one of Lyle’s former comrades has been imprisoned, drawing the outlaw into a conspiracy more dangerous than roadside theft. Colonel John Maddocks is assigned to track him and uses the state’s resources to close every route of escape. Lyle must decide whether rescuing his friend justifies exposing Bella and Grumm to capture, while his campaign of revenge makes it increasingly difficult to distinguish justice from another private war.
