Dieppe Raid

The Dieppe Raid took place in August 1942, when Allied troops attacked the German-held port of Dieppe on the French coast. The operation involved Canadian infantry, British commandos, naval support and air cover.
The raid failed with severe casualties and many prisoners, but it shaped later planning for amphibious assaults. Lessons from Dieppe influenced decisions about intelligence, armour, naval fire support and landing craft before D-Day.
