Time Fall
First published 2013
Germany, 1945. Lieutenant Art Sutton and a small American special-operations team parachute behind German lines to attack Nazi targets, but an unexplained event during the jump carries them forward to 2011. Unaware at first that the war has been over for decades, the soldiers continue their mission while German police interpret their sabotage and armed raids as acts of terrorism.
Modern investigators race to explain evidence that appears to connect current violence with missing servicemen from the Second World War, while the stranded soldiers confront a Germany radically different from the country they were sent to fight. The time-slip premise allows the novel to place wartime loyalties, Nazi ideology and the moral assumptions of 1945 directly against the institutions and memories of twenty-first-century Europe.
