Timothy Ashby is an American historian and novelist whose work ranges from Elizabethan intelligence and Cold War Caribbean politics to historically grounded thrillers set in the eighteenth and twentieth centuries.

Timothy Ashby was born in the United States and spent formative years in Grenada, where an interest in archaeology, sailing and Caribbean history developed into a lifelong engagement with the past. His professional career has included work as a counter-terrorism consultant to the US State Department, service as a senior US government official, international law and business. He holds a PhD in International Relations from the University of Southern California, an MBA from the University of Edinburgh and a law degree, and has published more than one hundred articles in outlets including the Harvard International Review, the RUSI Journal and US Naval Institute Proceedings.

Ashby writes both nonfiction and historical fiction. His nonfiction includes The Bear in the Back Yard: Moscow’s Caribbean Strategy, Missed Opportunities: The Rise and Fall of Jamaica’s Edward Seaga and Elizabethan Secret Agent: The Untold Story of William Ashby (1536–1593). His fiction includes Time Fall, the Seth Armitage thrillers Devil’s Den and In Shadowland, and the Storm of War novels Ranger and Desperate Valour. His books repeatedly return to intelligence work, political conflict and military service, using settings that range from Elizabethan Scotland and revolutionary Grenada to the interwar United States and Nazi Germany.
