Storm of War

The Storm of War series follows Alexander ‘Chart’ Charteris, a mixed-race British officer whose military career unfolds across the Atlantic world during the age of revolution. Beginning with Fédon’s Rebellion in Grenada in the 1790s, the novels place Chart between Britain, the Caribbean and competing revolutionary movements, where race, slavery, class and imperial allegiance directly shape his choices.

The sequence continues into the War of 1812 and the Battle of New Orleans, with Chart serving in the 1st West India Regiment and undertaking intelligence work before returning to open battle. Ashby uses real campaigns, Black British military service and colonial politics as the framework for an adventure series in which Chart’s personal loyalties are repeatedly tested by the empires and institutions he serves.
