When Germany invades Norway in 1940, missionary’s daughter Mallory Anne Winslow is drawn into the resistance. Her work among the Sami in the far north gives way to clandestine activity as occupation transforms ordinary travel, communication and personal relationships into potential sources of intelligence.

Mallory is instructed to cultivate Derek Raeder, an aide to a German colonel, in order to learn what the occupiers are planning. The assignment becomes more dangerous as personal feeling complicates deception and the Germans begin to suspect her. The novel places its romance inside the risks faced by civilians and resistance networks under occupation.
