The D-Day Atlas reconstructs Operation Overlord through maps, diagrams and concise narrative, beginning with Allied planning and deception before following the airborne landings and assaults on Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword beaches. It identifies objectives, unit movements, command decisions, coastal defences and the effects of terrain, weather, naval fire and air power on the fighting of 6 June 1944.

The coverage continues beyond the landings into the battle for the Normandy lodgement, the struggle around Caen and the bocage, the American breakout, German counterattacks and the closing of the Falaise pocket.
