Operation Mincemeat

In 1943, British intelligence prepares a corpse to appear to be Major William Martin of the Royal Marines and equips it with documents indicating that the Allies intend to invade Greece and Sardinia rather than Sicily. The body, actually that of Glyndwr Michael, is released off Spain so that the false papers will reach German intelligence through officially neutral channels.

Ewen Montagu, Charles Cholmondeley and their colleagues construct an entire personal identity around the dead man, including letters, bills and a supposed fiancée. Macintyre follows the deception from its planning to Hitler’s response and the invasion of Sicily, while also recovering the identity of the person whose body made the operation possible.
