Book
Emperor’s Spear
First published 2021
The German frontier, AD 213. Caracalla seeks military prestige in a campaign beyond the Rhine and Danube, relying on soldiers whose loyalty is essential to his rule. Silus is sent to find Atius, a missing Arcani officer, and discovers signs that the disappearance is connected to a wider betrayal.
Movement between forts, tribal territory and the imperial column turns the investigation into a frontier pursuit. The novel uses Caracalla’s Germanic campaign to test the Arcani’s secrecy and Silus’s trust in men whose orders may serve personal ambition rather than Roman security.
