Bradshaw turns the fragmentary ancient tradition about Aristeas into a children’s historical fantasy of travel, myth and moral choice. The story moves from the Greek world towards the Scythian steppe, treating the fabulous geography preserved by Herodotus as a landscape in which the boundary between remembered travel and myth has not yet hardened.
