A Man without Breath
Berlin, March 1943. After the German defeat at Stalingrad, Bernie Gunther is working for the War Crimes Bureau when mass graves are discovered in the Katyn Forest. The victims appear to be Polish officers, and Joseph Goebbels sees the site as an opportunity to prove Soviet responsibility and split the wartime alliance between the USSR and the Western powers.
Gunther is sent east to assist the investigation, but the assignment places him between forensic evidence and a propaganda machine that already knows the conclusion it wants. His search for the truth unfolds amid occupation, mass murder and political calculation, where establishing what happened at Katyn does not mean being free to say it.
