1917 Eagles Fall
Spring 1917 brings the Battle of Arras and the disastrous air fighting remembered as Bloody April. New German Albatros fighters dominate parts of the front, and the Royal Flying Corps loses pilots and observers at a punishing rate. Bill, Gordy and Ted of 41 Squadron must keep flying while experienced German opponents, including Manfred von Richthofen, exploit every weakness.
The novel moves between operations over France and the pressures felt by families at home. Combat is shaped by unreliable aircraft, rapidly changing tactics and the knowledge that each patrol may end before a pilot has time to learn from his mistakes. The result is a portrait of the First World War air campaign at the moment when British aircrews faced one of their severest tests.
