House of Falconer

The House of Falconer trilogy traces James Falconer’s rise from a London market barrow boy to the creator of a retail empire. Beginning in the 1880s, the novels move through late Victorian London, Paris, English country houses and the commercial networks that offer ambitious outsiders a path into wealth and influence.

James’s partnership and rivalry with the Malvern family drive a story of class mobility, betrayal and difficult love. The final novel carries him into the trenches of the First World War, where the confidence of the Victorian age collapses and he must decide whether business success can compensate for the family relationships he has damaged.
