Conspiracy

by Iain Gale Book 4 in the Keane series.

First published 2016

4.1(1,111)

In 1812 Captain James Keane enters Napoleon’s Paris under cover as part of a British intelligence effort to encourage resistance to French rule. Napoleon’s empire remains formidable, but the capital contains royalists, foreign agents, exiles and opportunists whose hostility to the regime does not mean that they share Britain’s objectives.

Keane must identify which conspirators can be trusted and whether an apparent opportunity to weaken Napoleon is genuine or a trap. Working without the protection of his company and surrounded by informers, he moves through a city where politics and espionage are indistinguishable, and where provoking rebellion could be as dangerous to Britain’s interests as failing to act.
