Jacquetta of Luxembourg was a noblewoman connected to the Lancastrian court and mother of Elizabeth Woodville. Through her daughter’s marriage to Edward IV, she became linked to the Yorkist monarchy and the dynastic politics of the Wars of the Roses.

Jacquetta of Luxembourg also held the offices or ranks of Duke of Bedford and Earl Rivers. Jacquetta of Luxembourg belonged to the House of Luxembourg and operated within France. Jacquetta of Luxembourg was born in Palace of Westminster.

Philippa Gregory’s The Lady of the Rivers places Jacquetta of Luxembourg at the centre of the story rather than at the edge of her daughter’s rise. The novel follows her first marriage to the Duke of Bedford, her secret marriage to Richard Woodville and her service to Margaret of Anjou as Lancastrian power collapses.
