Billy Boyle is ordered to pursue a French collaborator known as Atlantik, who is carrying Allied plans to German officers in occupied Paris. The documents are deliberately false, intended to convince the Germans that Allied armies will bypass the city and drive directly towards the frontier.
French Resistance fighters want Atlantik dead for earlier betrayals, but Billy and Piotr Kazimierz must keep him alive long enough to deliver the deception. Their task requires them to appear to hunt the traitor while secretly protecting his route, balancing military strategy against the demands of men and women who have lost comrades because of him.
