Book
A King’s Trade
First published 2006
Alan Lewrie faces prosecution for removing enslaved men from a Jamaican plantation to replace sailors lost to yellow fever. To keep him beyond the reach of the colonial court, the Foreign Office sends him with an East India Company convoy bound for Cape Town and India.
The voyage brings merchants, naval officers and a travelling theatre company into the same vulnerable formation. While escorting the convoy, Lewrie must manage threats at sea and intrigue among the passengers, including the dangerous performer Eudoxia Durschenko, whose loyalties are less straightforward than her public role suggests.
