Band of Brothers

by Alexander Kent Book 3 in the Richard Bolitho series.

First published 2005

2.5(5)

Early in 1774, Richard Bolitho and Martyn Dancer await the lieutenant examinations that could end their years as midshipmen. A routine passage from Plymouth to Guernsey aboard an unfamiliar schooner appears to offer a final test of seamanship before promotion.

The voyage instead exposes divided loyalties, danger at sea and the cost of command. Bolitho is compelled to act with an officer’s authority before he officially holds the rank, and the decisions he makes carry him from the companionship of the midshipmen’s berth into the more isolated responsibilities of a King’s officer.
