Book
Enemy in Sight!
First published 1970
At the end of 1794, Richard Bolitho takes the repaired Hyperion from Plymouth to join the blockade of Revolutionary France. The ship’s new company is largely untrained, while the British commodore commanding the squadron repeatedly underestimates the French admiral Lequiller.
When Lequiller escapes into the Atlantic, Hyperion joins a pursuit stretching from the Bay of Biscay to the Caribbean. Each encounter pushes Bolitho beyond the duties of a single captain, requiring him to think as a strategist while keeping a fragile crew together against a faster and more experienced enemy.
