Virgin Widow

Anne Neville is the younger daughter of Richard Neville, Earl of Warwick, whose wealth and political power make her marriage a weapon in the Wars of the Roses. She is first married to the Lancastrian heir Edward of Westminster as Warwick attempts to restore Henry VI.

After the Lancastrian defeat, Anne’s future becomes entangled with Richard, Duke of Gloucester, the man who will become Richard III. The novel follows her from dynastic pawn to queen, interpreting the gaps in the record through the pressures of inheritance, captivity, disputed property and repeated changes of regime.
