Vienna, late 1930s. Alex Kovacs works for his family’s mining business and travels regularly into Germany, giving an anti-Nazi intelligence network an opportunity to use him as a courier and observer. Austria’s independence is being undermined from within while Hitler’s government increases pressure from across the border.
A personal tragedy and the attention of a Gestapo officer make Alex’s new role impossible to abandon. Arrest, interrogation and political theatre carry him toward the Nazi annexation of Austria, forcing an ordinary businessman to decide how much he will risk when legal institutions can no longer protect either his family or his country.
