SAS Great Escapes Three

The third collection follows five groups of special-forces soldiers and agents cut off during operations in occupied Europe. Raids, parachute missions and support for resistance fighters leave the participants dependent on local knowledge when planned extraction fails or German security forces close around them.

Lewis reconstructs the practical stages of evasion: abandoning uniforms, obtaining food, crossing controlled roads and choosing between competing escape routes. The stories emphasise that individual courage was rarely sufficient without organised resistance networks and civilians prepared to conceal strangers despite the collective punishments imposed by the occupation authorities.
