Tiberius Claudius Cogidubnus

Tiberius Claudius Cogidubnus was a client king in Roman Britain, probably ruling in the south after the Claudian conquest. His Romanised name and possible link with Fishbourne Palace make him important for understanding cooperation between native elites and Rome.

An inscription from Chichester is commonly connected with Cogidubnus and records a ruler loyal to Rome; his career illustrates how the conquest could operate through client kings as well as direct military administration.

In Lindsey Davis’ A Body in the Bath House, At the palace associated with the client ruler Cogidubnus, competing architects, fraudulent suppliers and fatal accidents have delayed the work.
