Quintus Petillius Cerialis was a Roman general active in Britain and on the Rhine during the first century AD. Quintus Petillius Cerialis served as ancient Roman senator and legatus Augusti pro praetore Britanniae.
He fought against Boudica’s revolt and later helped suppress the Batavian rebellion before serving as governor of Britain. Quintus Petillius Cerialis also held the offices or ranks of legatus Augusti pro praetore Britanniae and Roman consul.
In Simon Turney’s Agricola: Commander, the arrival of Governor Quintus Petillius Cerialis brings a more aggressive campaign and places the legion at the centre of Flavian consolidation. Command now requires Agricola to protect his men, satisfy the new regime and confront the human consequences of renewed conquest. Quintus Petillius Cerialis is treated fictionally in Griff Hosker’s Druid’s Gold, Griff Hosker’s Invasion- Caledonia, Griff Hosker’s Revolt of the Red Witch, Griff Hosker’s Roman Courage, Griff Hosker’s Roman Hawk, and Griff Hosker’s Roman Treachery.
