Aeneas

Aeneas was a Trojan prince and legendary survivor of the fall of Troy. In the Iliad he fights among Troy’s defenders, while later Roman tradition makes him the leader of refugees who travel west and become ancestors of the Roman people. Virgil’s Aeneid presents his journey through war, shipwreck, Carthage and Italy as a divinely directed foundation story.

In Virgil’s The Aeneid, Virgil’s Aeneid follows Aeneas from the ruins of Troy to Italy, where exile, piety, love, war and sacrifice become the mythic prehistory of Rome.
