Under Occupation

by Alan Furst Book 15 in the Night Soldiers series.

2.5(5)

Paris, 1942. Novelist Paul Ricard witnesses a pursued courier pass a technical drawing to a stranger moments before German forces close in. The fragment draws him into a resistance operation seeking information about German weapons production, despite his lack of training and the severe risks imposed on anyone connected with clandestine work.

The intelligence depends partly on Polish labourers forced to work inside German industry, who copy and transmit details through a precarious chain of couriers. Ricard and the resistance organiser Leila move between safe houses, workshops and occupied streets as the police search for the network. The novel links resistance in France with the exploitation of foreign labour inside the Nazi war economy.
