Venice, 1643. Mia Caiozzi wants to study astronomy at a time when new ideas about the heavens can attract dangerous attention. The canals, palazzi and intellectual networks of Baroque Venice provide a setting for a story about scientific curiosity, religious authority and the cost of protecting a family through deception. The novel also extends the series from Giulia’s own choices to the consequences those choices have for the next generation.
