Texas Standoff
Texas Rangers Andy Pickard and Logan Daggett are sent into central Texas after a series of killings and cattle thefts threatens to ignite a local feud. Two powerful cattlemen blame one another, but the Rangers suspect that the obvious rivalry is concealing a more organised campaign. Their investigation becomes more dangerous when masked vigilantes calling themselves regulators appear and a notorious hired gun arrives without revealing who has employed him.
A murdered prisoner and a confrontation at the county jail force Pickard and Daggett to work through competing loyalties, intimidation and false accusations. The novel places their investigation in a frontier society where formal law is thinly spread and wealthy ranchers can exert enormous local power, making the Rangers responsible not only for identifying the killers but for preventing private vengeance from becoming open warfare.
