Wild West
Wild West collects Elmer Kelton stories set across different periods of Texas and western life. The characters include ranchers, law officers, veterans, working women and families whose ordinary responsibilities become dangerous when fire, crime, violence or disputed property overwhelms the limited protection available to them.
The stories range from frontier conditions to the twentieth century, allowing Kelton to examine how the West changed without treating its people as a single heroic type. Domestic loyalty, economic pressure and moral choice are as important as gunfights or pursuits, and the collection repeatedly focuses on people forced to decide what they will defend when formal authority cannot solve the problem for them.
