Georgie accepts the Queen’s request to attend a house party in northern Italy, where she is expected to prevent the Prince of Wales and Wallis Simpson from arranging a secret marriage. The journey also gives her a chance to visit Belinda, who is hiding her pregnancy nearby, while Darcy undertakes an undercover mission among the guests.
Old school rivalries, Georgie’s unpredictable mother and competing secret assignments make the gathering increasingly dangerous. When the political manoeuvring leads to violence, Georgie must determine which guests are pursuing a royal scandal and which are involved in a wider fascist conspiracy.
