Daniel accepts a secret government assignment and tells Molly almost nothing about it. After seeing him in San Francisco in a newsreel and receiving a coded letter, Molly crosses the country with Liam, only to be told on arrival that Daniel has died.
A message convinces Molly that the reported death is part of the operation, and she begins searching the city for him. The 1906 earthquake and fire then destroy streets, records and communications, forcing Molly to survive the disaster while uncovering the conspiracy surrounding Daniel’s mission.
