Death Comes as the End

Death Comes as the End is set in ancient Egypt around 2000 BCE, during the Middle Kingdom, and follows the family of a prosperous Theban ka‑priest, Imhotep. When Imhotep brings home a beautiful young concubine named Nofret, her arrival disrupts the household and fuels jealousy, resentment, and suspicion. One by one, members of the family begin to die under mysterious circumstances. The story is told through the eyes of Imhotep’s daughter, Renisenb, who tries to understand the tensions within the household while grappling with grief, fear, and the unsettling sense that someone close to her is a murderer. Christie uses the domestic setting to explore how buried emotions and rivalries can turn lethal.
