Behind Enemy Lines

Archie Gibson joins the Long Range Desert Group and operates across North Africa, where patrols navigate enormous distances to gather intelligence, transport raiders and attack Axis positions. His service places him inside a unit whose mobility and desert knowledge support the emerging SAS during the campaign against Rommel’s forces.

Drawing on Gibson’s diaries and family papers, Lewis reconstructs both the operations and the relationships that sustained the patrols. The account emphasises navigation, mechanical improvisation and the strain of prolonged isolation behind enemy lines. It is scheduled for publication in October 2026.
