A Year of Ravens is a collaborative novel in seven interlocking parts by Ruth Downie, Stephanie Dray, E. Knight, Kate Quinn, Vicky Alvear Shecter, S. J. A. Turney and Russell Whitfield. Set during Boudica’s uprising of AD 60–61, it follows queens and slaves, Romans and Britons, warriors and negotiators whose stories cross as rebellion spreads through occupied Britain.

Downie contributes the second section, following Ria, a slave in the royal household, while the complete novel moves from the grievances that ignite the revolt towards its violent conclusion. The changing viewpoints place Boudica’s campaign beside the private cost of war, showing how imperial policy, tribal loyalty and personal survival affect people with very different degrees of power.
