Battle of Tricamarum

533

The Battle of Tricamarum was fought west of Carthage in December 533 between the Eastern Roman army under Belisarius and Vandal forces led by King Gelimer and his brother Tzazon.

Roman cavalry attacks killed Tzazon and disrupted the Vandal line. Gelimer abandoned the field, and the collapse of organised resistance allowed the Romans to complete the conquest of the kingdom.

The battle is central to fiction about Belisarius, the Vandalic War and the restoration of Roman government in North Africa.
