Jack and Amy Cole

Steven Veerapen’s Jack and Amy Cole trilogy follows a married couple drawn into the intelligence and religious conflicts surrounding Elizabeth I and Mary, Queen of Scots. A Dangerous Trade begins during Mary’s English captivity; Divided Loyalties moves to the crisis created by the papal excommunication of Elizabeth in 1570; and The Last Judgement takes the Coles to Rome during the conclave that elects Gregory XIII in 1572.

The novels combine invented agents and conspiracies with documented rulers, diplomats and religious events. Jack and Amy are fictional, while figures such as Mary, Francis Walsingham and Catherine de’ Medici appear under their historical identities. The sequence is a connected espionage trilogy rather than the generic “An Elizabethan Spy Thriller” series label used by some retailer metadata.
