Command
First published 2006
Kydd receives command of the brig-sloop Teazer and must turn an unfamiliar vessel into an effective warship while French forces, privateers and corsairs threaten British positions around Malta. Authority now depends on his ability to train and judge men rather than simply perform his own duty well.
The Peace of Amiens abruptly removes that purpose and leaves Kydd searching for employment. A voyage transporting convicts to Australia reunites him with Renzi and turns apparent peacetime exile into a test of command, friendship and survival far from the fleet.
