Princess Nefra is born as the invading Shepherd Kings overthrow her father, King Kheperra, and force Queen Rima to flee with the royal child. Prophecy marks Nefra as the hope of the native dynasty, while her mother, the loyal nurse Kemmah and a shrinking circle of allies struggle to preserve her identity from enemies who would extinguish the line.
The novel follows Nefra’s growth amid exile, betrayal, warfare and competing claims of love and kingship. Haggard turns the legendary Hyksos age into a dynastic romance in which national restoration is inseparable from sacred legitimacy and the survival of Egypt’s displaced royal house.
