Book
Jester’s Fortune
First published 1999
Alan Lewrie takes HMS Jester into the Adriatic as Britain tries to disrupt French reinforcement of Napoleon’s armies in Italy. A small allied squadron begins by intercepting shipping and raiding exposed positions, but its limited strength becomes increasingly obvious as French power expands along the coast.
The reinforcements sent to assist the squadron bring their own political and military dangers. Lewrie must work with unreliable allies, protect his ship from a stronger enemy and decide how far he can trust orders shaped by distant commanders and competing interests.
