Signal – Close Action!
First published 1974
In 1798, Commodore Richard Bolitho leads a small squadron back into the Mediterranean to discover the purpose of a growing French armada. Without secure British bases and with unreliable officers inside his own command, he must gather intelligence while avoiding a battle on terms chosen by the enemy.
As the French expedition moves towards Egypt, Bolitho places his ships between the Nile and the enemy fleet. The decision forces him to weigh national strategy against the lives of his captains and crews, knowing that one mistaken signal could sacrifice the squadron and alter the course of the war.
