African War, 47–46 BCE

After leaving Egypt, Julius Caesar crossed to North Africa to confront senators and Pompeian commanders supported by King Juba I of Numidia. The campaign culminated in Caesar’s victory at Thapsus in 46 BCE.

The defeat led to the deaths of leading opponents including Cato the Younger and broke the principal senatorial army outside Hispania. It was a decisive but not final stage of Caesar’s Civil War.
