The Civil War in the West

The Civil War in the West is Jeff Shaara’s four-volume sequence about campaigns beyond the more familiar eastern battlefields. It begins with A Blaze of Glory at Shiloh and continues through Vicksburg, Chattanooga, Atlanta and Sherman’s final campaigns across Georgia and the Carolinas.

The books follow Ulysses S. Grant, William Tecumseh Sherman, Albert Sidney Johnston and other commanders alongside ordinary soldiers whose experiences connect the separate campaigns. The series shows how control of rivers, railways and interior territory steadily weakened the Confederacy and made Union victory possible.
