Monsignor Quixote

Father Quixote, a village priest who believes himself descended from Cervantes’s knight, is unexpectedly promoted to monsignor after helping an Italian bishop. His friend Sancho, the town’s former Communist mayor, joins him on a journey across Spain in an ageing car they call Rocinante.
Their conversations set Catholic faith against Marxist doubt without allowing either man an easy victory. Encounters with police, clergy, pilgrims and ordinary travellers reveal a country adjusting to the end of dictatorship. Friendship matters more than ideological agreement as the journey becomes both comic pilgrimage and examination of belief in post-Franco Spain.
