Dilly Court is a British author best known for bestselling historical sagas centred on working-class women, family hardship and survival. Raised in north-east London, she began her career in commercial television, writing scripts and advertising material, before publishing her first novel later in life. She is now the author of more than forty novels and also writes under the name Lily Baxter.

Her novels include Mermaids Singing, The Workhouse Girl, The Beggar Maid, The Cockney Angel and Sunday’s Child. Frequently set in Victorian and Edwardian London, her stories follow women confronting poverty, social inequality, family separation and personal loss while attempting to build more secure lives.
