Asano Naganori

1667–1701

Asano Naganori was the daimyō of Akō whose 1701 attack on the court official Kira Yoshinaka inside Edo Castle led to his immediate sentence of seppuku. The confiscation of his domain left his retainers masterless and set in motion the Akō Incident, later celebrated as the story of the forty-seven rōnin.
